Go to on-line Virtual Pig Dissection (U. of Central Oklahoma – Biology Dept).  Draw and label the structures from today’s handout (available on-line at Handout from U. of Central OK – labels for all structures to be on quiz ).  Your labels should include the number of the structure (1-130) and the actual name of the structure.   This is a 20 point assignment and is due on Monday, the day of our Test on the Fetal Pig Dissection (100 points).  You will also have a practical by lab group where you will be identifying structures in an actual pig.  That will be worth 50 points.

Daily Details

 

6/2 – Mon

Below are the original instructions and requirements as stated when we began the dissection of the fetal pig.  They have been modified.  The word modify  is crossed out showing it was one of the original word.  The word newest is in italics to show it is new wording, or changes that I made from the original.

 For the Fetal Pig Dissection – you will be responsible for the following:

EXTRA CREDIT

1. Each individual will be responsible for  have the opportunity for extra credit.  Each labeled drawings drawing turned in by Tuesday 6/3 of their activity in lab each day will be worth up to 3 points extra credit.  These drawings need to have your individual name on them, not your group.

2. All labels seen in the Virtual Pig Dissection (Whitman College) will be included in your lab practical.  You will also be responsible all terms added on the Day 1 – Day 6 dissection terms you were given.  You will need to not only identify each structure, but you will need to describe its function.

3. There will be a test at the end of the dissection days (12 days).  You will be responsible for labeling each part of the pig from pictures and understanding the function of each structure and part. (100 points)

4. There will be a practical exam where each lab group will be quizzed, one group at a time.  The answer of each member of the lab will be counted for or against all members of the group. (50 points)

 You are invited to look at Mr. Wigger’s esophagus, stomach, pyloric valve, and duodenum from the inside!  Go to Mr. Wigger’s Gastroscopy

6/6 – Fri   The following numbers from Handout from U. of Central OK – labels for all structures to be on quiz will not be on the test on Monday:

Digestive – remove 36

Glands – remove 2,3,4,39,44

Heart and Vessels – remove 51,54, and 55

Circulatory below diaphragm – remove all except 58,68, and 71.

Ciculatory above diaphragm – remove 93,95,97,98,99,100

Female Reproductive – remove 105 and 107

Urinary – remove 110

 

The total number of structures that are left should be 54 total.

Remember, you are still responsible for everything in the Virtual Pig Dissection (Whitman College)
